Tunisia sits outside the European Union’s roaming zone, which means EU and UK SIMs do not automatically extend their domestic data allowances here. If you arrive with a standard European SIM, expect either expensive out-of-bundle roaming charges or a data cutoff at the airport. Tunisia’s Mobile Networks
Tunisia has three main operators: Ooredoo Tunisia, Tunisie Telecom, and Orange Tunisia.
Ooredoo Tunisia is the largest by subscriber count and has the broadest 4G coverage, particularly in the resort corridor from Tunis south to Monastir, Sousse, and Hammamet. Coverage also reaches into the interior and the Sahara regions around Tozeur and Douz, though 4G gives way to 3G in more remote desert areas.
Tunisie Telecom is the state-owned incumbent with strong rural reach, including the northwest (Beja, Jendouba, Le Kef) and the south. It tends to be more consistent along the main cross-country road routes than either Ooredoo or Orange.
Orange Tunisia is strong in Tunis city and the northeast, competitive in urban centres but less comprehensive in smaller towns and the interior.

Where Coverage is Reliable
Tunis: 4G from all three operators across most of the city, including the medina, Carthage, Sidi Bou Said, and La Marsa. Fast speeds in hotels and tourist areas.
Hammamet, Nabeul, Sousse: 4G is solid throughout the resort strip. Beach hotels and the medinas all have good coverage.
Sfax and Gabes: 4G in urban centres. Good for transit stops or longer stays in the south.
Tozeur and Douz (Sahara gateway towns): 4G in town, transitioning to 3G on the roads into the desert. Download offline maps before heading out to the salt flats or dune zones.
Dougga, Sbeitla, El Djem (archaeological sites in the interior): coverage varies. Ooredoo and Tunisie Telecom have some 4G presence, but 3G fallback is common. Good enough for messaging; unreliable for video streaming.
Matmata and the Berber south: expect patchy 3G. Plan accordingly and download offline maps before leaving town.

A Note on Internet Restrictions
Tunisia occasionally restricts access to certain websites and social media platforms. During politically sensitive periods, Twitter/X and some news sites have been intermittently throttled.
