French tour operators are reporting that bookings to Tunisia for the autumn 2026 season have reached their highest level in a decade, driven by strong demand for Djerba and Hammamet and supported by an expanded direct flight programme from Paris, Lyon, and Bordeaux.
What the Numbers Show
According to Travel Weekly’s reporting on French outbound market data, confirmed bookings to Tunisia from France are running approximately 34% ahead of the equivalent period in 2025 and represent the largest forward booking position since 2015, the year before a series of security incidents substantially reduced French arrivals. The recovery has been gradual since 2020, but 2026 appears to mark a decisive shift in consumer confidence.
The strongest demand is concentrated at the two traditional French resort hubs: Djerba island, which has hosted direct charter and scheduled flights from France for over 40 years, and Hammamet on the northern coast, whose mix of beach hotels and medina architecture draws both families and cultural travellers. Both destinations have seen significant hotel renovation investment since 2022, with several all-inclusive properties upgrading to compete with Turkey and Egypt at similar price points.
Why Autumn Is Ideal
September through November is arguably Tunisia’s best travel window. Summer heat has passed — daytime temperatures in Djerba and Hammamet drop to a comfortable 25–28°C — and the crowds that fill the beach resorts in July and August thin considerably. The sea temperature stays warm enough for swimming well into October, and the autumn light is excellent for exploring the medinas, Roman ruins, and desert regions inland.
The autumn festival calendar also continues into October, with music and cultural events running across Tunis, Sousse, and the south.
