Tunisian airline Nouvelair has added a direct service between Hamburg Airport and Tunis-Carthage International Airport as part of its winter 2026 network, providing northern German travellers with a non-stop link to Tunisia for the first time in the current schedule.

Previously, passengers from Hamburg connecting to Tunis had to transit through Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, or Paris — adding two to three hours to a journey the direct service covers in approximately three and a half hours.

Why the Hamburg route matters

Germany is one of Tunisia’s most established source markets, particularly for coastal resort holidays around Hammamet and the island of Djerba. Hamburg is northern Germany’s main air hub, serving not only the city itself but also travellers from Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, and — for those willing to drive south — Scandinavia. A direct Hamburg departure removes a significant connection burden that has historically pushed northern German travellers towards Egypt, Turkey, or Spain instead.

The route launches as Tunisia’s tourism numbers continue to recover and as the country broadens its appeal beyond the traditional sun-and-sea package model.

What you’ll find on arrival

Tunis-Carthage Airport sits within the northern suburbs of the capital, roughly ten kilometres from the city centre and around twenty minutes by taxi or the TGM light rail line from La Marsa station.

Tunis city itself has expanded its visitor offer considerably — the medina (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Bardo National Museum’s mosaic collection, and the Tunis Carthage ruins are all accessible as half-day excursions from the city. For those heading directly to resort areas, Hammamet and Nabeul are roughly an hour south.

If you’re arriving at Tunis-Carthage and need organised onward transport, our airport transfer guide covers private transfers, shared shuttles, and the city rail options.

The Hamburg–Tunis route joins a growing list of direct European services to Tunisia’s capital as demand for mid-haul Mediterranean connections continues to build heading into 2027.
