The louage from Tunis to Nabeul is one of the more straightforward routes on the network — a single direct vehicle, a fare of around 8-10 TND, and a journey of roughly 1 hour 15 minutes. Nabeul sits on the northern edge of the Cap Bon peninsula, Tunisia’s ceramic and craft heartland, and is easily reached from the capital without a car.
The right station: Bab Alioua
Louages to Nabeul depart from Bab Alioua station, the Cap Bon terminal in Tunis. It is located in the central-southern part of the city, closer to the medina than Moncef Bey (the southern terminal), and reachable by taxi (around 5-7 TND from the medina) or on foot from some central hotels.
Bab Alioua handles all Cap Bon destinations: Nabeul, Hammamet, Kelibia, Menzel Temime, and Zaghouan. On arrival, ask for the Nabeul vehicle or look for it in the Cap Bon section of the station.
Critical point: Bab Alioua is the wrong station for Sousse, Kairouan, or Sfax. If your destination is anywhere south of Hammamet along the coast, you need Moncef Bey. This is the most common station mix-up in Tunis — double-check before you travel.
Fares and payment
The standard fare from Tunis to Nabeul is 8-10 TND per seat. Fares are fixed, paid in cash, and do not require advance booking. Have small notes ready — 5 TND and 10 TND notes are ideal for this route.
To Hammamet (the stop before Nabeul on the same route) the fare is around 7-9 TND. If you are visiting Nabeul’s craft market and Hammamet’s medina on the same day, some travellers board at Hammamet for the first leg and take a louage or taxi the 12 kilometres between the two towns.
Timing and wait times
Bab Alioua serves one of the busiest short-haul routes in the network. Vehicles for Nabeul and Hammamet fill quickly throughout the morning and early afternoon. In summer, when tourist traffic is high, you can expect to wait only 10-15 minutes before your vehicle departs.
Travel before noon if you want to make the most of a day trip. Nabeul’s main market (Friday market) is busiest in the morning, and the craft shops on Avenue Habib Bourguiba operate through the day but thin out after 4pm in winter.
What Nabeul is known for
Nabeul is Tunisia’s main artisan hub. The town is the centre of the country’s pottery industry — glazed ceramics in geometric patterns, traditional terracotta, and modern decorative work all originate here. The Friday market (Souk el Jemaa) brings traders from across Cap Bon selling pottery, carpets, leatherwork, spices, and clothing. It is one of the most authentic large markets in northern Tunisia and worth timing your visit around if possible.
Beyond the market, Nabeul’s town centre is relaxed and easy to navigate on foot. The beachfront is calm compared to the resort zone at Hammamet, and there are several small hotels and guesthouses if you want to stay overnight.

Arriving in Nabeul
The louage drops you near the Nabeul bus and louage station, which is a short walk from the main commercial street. The town centre and pottery market are within 10 minutes on foot. For the beach, allow a further 5-10 minutes walk south.
From Nabeul you can continue by louage or taxi to Hammamet (about 12 km, 5-8 TND by taxi), to Kelibia (further east on Cap Bon), or back to Tunis. The return journey uses the same Nabeul louage station and the same Bab Alioua terminal in Tunis.
Combining Nabeul and Hammamet
Many visitors combine both towns on the same day trip from Tunis. The standard approach:
- Louage from Tunis (Bab Alioua) to Nabeul — arrive morning
- Visit Nabeul’s market and medina (2-3 hours)
- Taxi from Nabeul to Hammamet (15-20 min, 8-10 TND)
- Walk the Hammamet medina and old town (2 hours)
- Louage from Hammamet back to Tunis (Bab Alioua)
This circuit is comfortable in a full day and avoids doubling back. Both towns are on the same louage corridor, so there is no wasted backtracking.
Tips for foreign travellers
Carry small notes. The 8-10 TND fare is best paid with a 10 TND note. Asking for change on a 20 TND note at a busy station is manageable but slower.
Friday market tip. Nabeul’s main market runs every Friday from early morning through midday. Arriving by 9am-10am gives you the best choice and the busiest atmosphere. By early afternoon the market winds down.
Pottery prices. In Nabeul you can bargain in the craft market. Fixed-price shops operate at set prices; market stalls typically have more flexibility. Knowing a rough price for a standard piece (a medium hand-painted plate is around 20-40 TND depending on quality) helps you negotiate.
Luggage. If you buy pottery or ceramics to take home, pack your purchases carefully — breakage happens in louage boots. Some sellers offer basic padding; bring your own bubble wrap if you are buying fragile pieces.
